Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of an organism. It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism, and excretion. The diet of an organism is what it eats, which is largely determined by the availability and palatability of foods. For humans, a healthy diet includes preparation of food and storage methods that preserve nutrients from oxidation, heat or leaching, and that reduce risk of foodborne illnesses.
In humans, an unhealthy diet can cause deficiency-related diseases such as blindness, anemia, scurvy, preterm birth, stillbirth and cretinism, or nutrient excess health-threatening conditions such as obesity and metabolic syndrome; and such common chronic systemic diseases as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Undernutrition can lead to wasting in acute cases, and the stunting of marasmus in chronic cases of malnutrition.
What is tacrolimus ointment, and how does it work (mechanism of action)?
Tacrolimus ointment is a topical drug (a
drug that is applied to the skin) that is used for the treatment of atopic
dermatitis (eczema). Atopic dermatitis is a chronic (long-lasting) disease of
skin in which the skin becomes inflamed, causing
itchiness, redness, swelling,
cracking, weeping, crusting, and scaling. The inflammation is caused by
activation of the immune system though the reason for the activation is unknown. Tacrolimus ointment suppresses the immune system and the inflammation by
inhibiting an enzyme (calcineurin) crucial for the multiplication of T-cells,
cells that are required for activation of the immune system. Tacrolimus ointment
was approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in December 2000.

- A food journal is a built-in mindfulness tool to check in with yourself on how you feel before, during, and after you eat.
- A new study published in Obesity found that tracking what you eat takes less than 15 minutes a day when done regularly.
- Logging foods can help you lose weight by informing your choices for the future.
Let’s start with some honesty: Keeping a food journal seems like a drag. Scribbling on a notepad amidst friends — “Was that seven croutons or eight, Karen?” — can feel awkward after every meal or snack. But in reality, logging what you eat really can help you lose weight and take a lot less time than you may think, according to a new study published in Obesity.
A study led by researchers at RCSI (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland) has analysed the mode of skin cancer rates in kidney transplant patients, which proves that increased risk is related to the usage of anti-rejection medications.
The research is published in JAMA Dermatology and was a collaboration between the National Cancer Registry Ireland and the National Kidney Transplant Service in Beaumont Hospital.
‘Anti-rejection medications should be prescribed rationally to transplant patients to avoid the risk of developing skin cancers.’
Patients who receive a kidney transplant are at increased risk of cancer, in particular skin cancer. The study found that this skin cancer risk falls when the transplant fails and the patients return to dialysis but rises again when they receive another transplant.
However, the rate of skin cancer is still higher in patients with failed transplants than pre-transplant patients on dialysis.

The first common genetic risk variants for autism and genetic differences existing between different clinical subgroups in autism have been found out by a group of researchers. These findings would lead to a better determination of genes in the diagnostic groups, help in making a more precise diagnosis and would also offer better counseling for patients with autism spectrum disorders.
Autism is not a new phenomenon as we have historical records describing individuals with symptoms that today are associated with the group of disorders that today is known as autism. It was not until 1938 that the first person was given that diagnosis though. Ever since then researchers have tried to explain where the disorder stems from. There have been many suggestions, but one factor has long been established – that genes play a very important role.

MONDAY, Feb. 4, 2019 (HealthDay News) — Interpret the data whatever way you will, but a new study shows a jump in women getting long-term contraception in the month following the election of President Donald Trump.
The researchers’ theory?
Study author Dr. Lydia Pace acknowledged that “there is limited concrete evidence about why this may have happened,” but she stressed that the findings “strongly suggest that the election itself led to the increased rate of IUDs [intrauterine devices] and implants.”
Why would that be the case?
“Following the election, there was certainly a lot of social media and other discussion about the implications of the election for access to contraception, which could have influenced women’s decision-making,” added Pace. She is an associate physician in the division of women’s health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
