HAIR AND YOUR HEALTH
Hair is a woman’s crowning glory. When it starts to fall at alarming rates it becomes a cause of incessant worry. Many believe that baldness occurs only in men but this is incorrect.
Ignoring hair loss can be a big mistake because hair is an indicator of health and losing your tresses might mean there is some imbalance that needs attention. Dermatologists believe that hair loss can be treated in most of the cases with timely medical help.
What is hair loss?
Shedding 50 to 100 hairs is a part of the normal hair cycle. But if you are seeing a gradual thinning of your mane or bald patches on your scalp, consult a dermatologist.
What are the causes?
If you have diffused thinning all over your scalp, you might have androgenetic alopecia. Hormones are the culprit. There can be an increase in male hormones and other imbalance related to ovarian cysts, pregnancy, birth control pills and menopause. Heredity factors might also have a role in it.
If your hair growth goes in to a resting phase, yours might be a case of telogen effluvium. Child birth, malnutrition (iron and protein deficiencies), crash dieting, surgery, infection or extreme stress can cause a lot of shedding of hair.
If you are losing hair in patches, it is called alopecia areata. This happens when the hair roots are attacked by your immune system.
Other reasons for hair loss include:
Medication
Chronic illness like renal and liver problems
Pulling your hair through regular braiding and ponytails
Thyroid disease
Improper hair treatments with repeated use of chemical colors or incorrect way of applying hair cosmetics.
How can it be treated?
The good news is that most cases of hair thinning can be reversed or stopped with medical help.
When hair loss follows temporary events, it will grow back after you pass that phase. Stress, pregnancy, disease, medication are some of the examples of such temporary events.
If your hair is thinning out because of an underlying protein or iron deficiency, it will grow back when you take a proper diet or supplements.
In cases where tress trauma is caused by hormonal imbalance, dermatologists may prescribe estrogen and progesterone pills or creams. Birth control pills with low androgen levels are also given in a few cases. But a thorough medical check-up is required before taking these treatments.
If you are losing hair in patches, your doctor might give you topical treatments like ketoconazole to treat any underlying fungal infection.
Many a times dermatologists may not be able to help you regrow your hair. In the case of thyroid disease, you might not see your tressing making a comeback even after taking thyroid medication. However, your doctor might be able to stop further hair loss.
There are many companies peddling hair loss cures. Don’t let these magical cure companies mislead you with their before-and-after pictures and guaranteed hair regrowth. The solution to your lost tresses does not lie outside. By taking a good look at your body basics you will not only treat your hair but also find a cure for the silent ailments that are attacking your health.

Have you ever tried ear candling?! We hadn’t either… Things got
interesting.
I learned about ear candling about 25-30 years ago. I’ve never had it done,
I was too chicken. Seems like someone experienced would be best, since I’ve
heard of people getting candle wax into their ear canals.
I had zillions of ear infections as a kid.
Wish ear candling was around then, would’ve saved me from much suffering.
I did find out, that when getting older, our bodies don’t cleanse & renew
our protective ear wax, so ear candling is great. Heard that ear wax vacuum
device doesn’t work.
Much cheaper than going to the doc to clean out wax build up. Actually,
often a cause of hearing impairment.
TY for demo’ing it.
why does the left one never have to try something?
I do the ear wax thing ALL THE TIME! I love it so much! <3 And yes, that
WAS your ear wax.
For by the ear one my mom has to do it every month because I have terrible
ears
Actually its the residue that the candle is made with. I did one with my
friend and yes u can do them at home. But they do work BC there was ear wax
in hers
Try cutting open an unused ear candle and see what the inside looks like
before and after. That way you know if it was really your ear wax or if it
was already there.
About the ear candle, my mom told me that when she was a little girl an old
neighbor used to do it with a paper cone. My mom is 70 years. So the ear
candle is really really old
I’ve done the ear wax thing & it worked for me( :
I used to do the ear wax thing all the time when i was younger but it
doesn’t work so yeah. That was just the inside of the candle burning.
These were not helpful ideas
You didn’t sing girl on fire
Right after a concert or something Lloyd my family always uses ear wax
candles. I love then. Though most of the stuff inside the candel was
residue. The wax is a different color.
I am the only one who remembers the ear wax candle thing being done to
Bruce on keeping up with the kardashians ?
My mom used to do the ear candle on my sister!!!!! So it was no surprise to
me!!!!
For ear candling I like to take tiny tongs and scissors to cut the excess
burnt candle (black part but not all so it stays lit, you will need tongs
to hold burnt candle while you cut) for it can fall off VERY easily and
BURN someone or put holes in fabric. Even using tin foil is good so you
don’t have to use paper plates, a bit more reassuring. Also getting the
person with the candle in the ear to hold the candle themselves is a good
idea so no uncomfortable angles or pressure in the ear occurs 🙂 great way
to clean without damaging your ears!
HA! THE EAR WAX THING LOOKS SO WEIRD BUT I WANT TO DO IT…:)
… I stumbled on this at 3am and I will be a new subscriber for life.
Bahahaha!! I giggled the entire way through the video. Love this. I’ll def
be watching.. probably ALL *nods* of your videos.
Me and my siblings would always get ear infections so my mom would do the
candle lol. You’re supposed to keep cutting the top where it’s crispy into
a bowl of water!
“you are so close to olivia” hahaha
The ear candles are completely safe to use…you just can’t freak out
haha. It helps if you have like swimmers ear or anything like that
Meg’s a borderline jerk
No need to explain, just watch the other beauty breaks w Lilly
Pause at 4:25 she has a clump of mascara awe
Ear candling doesn’t work! It’s a joke. You can burn the candle without
even putting it in your ear and you’ll get the exact same result inside the
candle. And if you put the candle inside a cup or jar and do it you’ll see
that wax actually drips into the glass therefore your putting candle wax in
your ear canal!!
